Columbus zoo wanted to expand and revitalize their successful Zoombezi Bay waterpark, originally designed and built by ADG. ADG incorporated the latest “safer play” technologies in aquatic attractions, increased deck, lounge, and cabanas for an additional revenue stream and party buy-outs.
Columbus Zoo once again called on ADG to design and build their new Baboon Lagoon expansion and Zoombezi Bay revitalization. The project incorporated hundreds of exciting water features into one recreational setting that included a newly themed play structure complemented by an active zone with basketball, waterfalls and a challenging ropes course. To cater to the younger crowd, a vibrantly colored shallow play zone was added with fountains, sprayers and kiddie slides. Created for maximum family enjoyment, Baboon Lagoon is designed with 360 degree access from the new lounge decks and cabanas.
Already a successful waterpark, the new addition of Baboon Lagoon attracted over 410,000 visitors in its first season, increased group sales and season pass-holder attendance, and helped boost the overall attendance numbers by nearly 8,000 more than its former top summer in 2008.
